Town Council’s Biggest community grant giveaway to date

Aimed at supporting charities and not-for-profit clubs, groups and organisations in the Town, this year’s Grant Aid helped a record-breaking forty-six organisations, with £19,756.45 shared between them – the total amount available was £20,000 – the biggest Grant Aid budget to date.

Successful applicants had to demonstrate that their group benefits members of the community by offering cultural enrichment, social activities, advice or support, or by providing sporting activities. All applications were considered on the basis of merit, aims and objectives.  The diverse range of projects funded represent the wonderful breadth of the work undertaken by the voluntary sector in Littlehampton.

Recipients included Howard Lawn Tennis, based at the Sportsfield, who used the funds to buy new furniture for their Clubhouse, the Littlehampton Musical Comedy Society, which will use funds towards the training of 12 volunteer chaperones to enable more young people to participate in theatrical productions and the Littlehampton Blind Club who will use the funds to cover transport to and from the Club for its members. Another beneficiary was the Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project who will be using their grant to create a touchscreen interactive display at the Look & Sea Centre.

Speaking about the Town Council’s Grant Aid scheme, Chair of the Community Resources Committee, Councillor Ian Buckland said: “The Council is committed to supporting groups and organisations that offer indispensable services to our residents and to reflect that it increased this year’s grant pot by £3,000. Although this scheme is closed until Spring 2019, there are other grants available for sporting individuals, arts and in bloom initiatives.”
