Garden Competition Launch

Increasing in popularity year on year, Littlehampton Town Council is delighted to announce that its annual Garden and Allotments competition, in partnership with Ferring Nurseries, returns for 2018.

Launched on April 3rd, Littlehampton gardeners are once again encouraged to enter the contest, which aims to promote civic pride and celebrate the achievements and enthusiasm of local horticulturists of all ages. And if you’re no Alan Titchmarsh yourself, remember that you can nominate a neighbourwhose green-fingered skills are worthy of recognition.

Criteria and prizes: Nominees must reside within the BN17 postcode. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including best communal garden- sponsored by FA Holland and Son. Commercial premises and allotment holders are also eligible to enter in specific categories. Winners who have won first place for two consecutive years must have a break for one year before entering again. The prize for ‘best new entrant’ is sponsored by Going Spare. Local Infant/Junior Schools are also encouraged to enter the competition- with each school receiving free Spring bedding from partners Ferring Nurseries. The closing date is 18th June.

Winners of each category will receive vouchers from principal sponsor, Ferring Nurseries. Entry forms are available now from the Town Council offices at the Manor House, Church Street, and from Ferring Nurseries, Littlehampton Road, Worthing.

Chair of the Allotments Working Group Cllr Ian Buckland said “The competition has grown in popularity throughout the years, with a lot of new entrants taking part last year, which demonstrates that we have many keen gardeners of all ages and abilities in our Town. We are really keen to see a few more entries in the commercial category so if you’re a local business and have a garden, courtyard or wall for hanging baskets, get involved.”
